Very strange but it's real! This desert lik town, also known for Curse of Talakad is located in Mysore on the banks of river Kaveri.
We found sand everywhere, as if it were a desert. The sand was very hot when we visited this place. The town of Talakad is surrounded by temples, excavated from beneath layers and layers of sand.
There are more temples still buried in the sand today. What we see now are only a few of the 30 temples that were buried due to the curse of AlamelammRāma. It is believed that a three fold curse, Let Talakād become sand ; let Mālangi become a whirlpool ; let the Mysore Rājas fail to beget heirs by Alamelamma had led to this the present day condition of Talakadu.
Several dynasties of kings ruled the city of Talakadu- Gangas, Hoysalas, Rashtra Kootas and Vijayanagara Kings.
A small road in the village leads to the banks of this river, where you can take a joyful boat ride over the clear waters of Kaveri.
The place is now advancing into horticulture and wine making.
Worship the Lord and enjoy river rafting in the town filled with Sand, Sand, Sand.
